Many of us are excited when it’s the season for pumpkin spice lattes! One of the ways my older son and I keep in touch is to exchange recipes (he’s turned into quite a cook). Recently, he sent me his version of a recipe he found on Houston Methodist Healthcare System’s website. We both love it and think it is big on flavor.

Homemade Pumpkin Spice Latte

Ingredients:

1/4 cup of your favorite strong hot coffee (or 2 shots of espresso)

1 cup 2% milk

1 tbsp. pumpkin purée

1/2 to 1 tbsp. maple syrup

1/2 tsp. vanilla extract

1/4 tsp. pumpkin pie spice

Optional: whipped cream for serving

Directions:

1 – Brew coffee and add to a large mug and set aside

2 – In a small saucepan add the milk, pumpkin purée, vanilla and pumpkin pie spice. Whisk together until smooth and heat until milk is hot (but not boiling). Remove from the heat and whisk in the maple syrup until just incorporated.

3 – Froth your milk and pumpkin mix from step 2 using a milk frother or a whisk by hand. Pour the mixture over the coffee/espresso, top with some whipped cream or some of the remaining froth milk mixture . Sprinkle lightly with more pumpkin spice. Enjoy! (You might enjoy seeing Houston Methodist’s article that includes their full recipe with different ingredient options)
